What are Claims?
Claims are free content, given to you directly from the creator of that content. Just as if you bought the content, you have permanent access to this content even though it was given to you for free.
When you claim an item you are giving your email address to the creator of that content and the right for that creator to contact you about other items they are giving away or selling.
You can revoke the access to your email and the right to contact you anytime in your Profile Settings.
Claims on Curios vs Content on Streaming Platforms
Here's how claims on Curios differ from free content on streaming platforms.
Both content is free for you to access, but when you stream content on a streaming platform like Spotify, YouTube, or Amazon, you do not own the content. You can access the content as long as those streamers have rights to it, but those rights rotate around all the time.
On Curios when you claim a piece of content, you have permanent access to it. Imagine if an author was to hand you a paperback copy of their book. Curios claims are like that but in digital form. You have ownership, you have control, and you maintain access for your content.
Considerations
Oftentimes the authors, musicians, and other creators on our platform are offering you the free content so that you will become a fan of theirs and possibly buy the next item they sell. We as Curios ask that you consider doing this.
Whenever you buy an item on Curios you are giving 100% of the funds to the person who made it which funds their ability to continue to make high quality, premium content. We think the streaming platforms are destroying artists' ability to have meaningful careers and if you can, we encourage you to support the people making the content that you love.
