In a major move to refresh and reintroduce their unparalleled collection of hip hop music, Grapetree Records announces that they will be publishing their legendary archive of music to the Curios Marketplace. Once a world leader in the Christian hip hop genre and boasting over one million CD units sold, Grapetree was at one point the largest independent label in Central Texas. This collaboration ensures that a new generation of listeners can experience the music that once dominated the charts and touched countless hearts.
Making the old new again: Curios’ technologies in digital content distribution, monetization and rights management have the power to take legacy, analog content, and make it relevant and available in the modern digital era.
Grapetree Records, founded by Knolly Williams in the 90s, is a testament to a journey of passion, commitment, and resilience. Knolly's story began with verses he deemed "poetry", an endeavor that eventually transformed into one of the most powerful Christian hip hop labels in the world. The biblical representation of Grapetree, combining the notions of redemption and the restored state of humanity, was the backbone of the label, echoing throughout its music.
By 1995, under the visionary leadership of Knolly and with the support of his dedicated team, including his wife, Grapetree Records made waves globally. Garnering attention from prominent platforms such as ABC, NBC, FOX, CBS, and Newsweek, and being featured in over 300 newspapers worldwide, their impact was undeniable. At its peak, Grapetree was rolling out as many as 30 albums a year.
Curios Marketplace, the contemporary hub for artists and listeners, has expressed immense excitement over this collaboration. The platform, known for its vast variety and quality content, will now see an addition of a trove of artists and songs from Grapetree, further enriching its catalog.
“The Grapetree Records collection is a welcome addition to our platform. Their rich history and unmatched contribution to the Christian hip hop genre is something to cherish,” said Grant Powell, Founder of Curios.
Grapetree's decision to join hands with Curios brings with it not just music, but stories of the transformative power of art. As the world evolves and industries shift, the essence of Grapetree’s message remains timeless, now finding a new home and audience on Curios.
